ALERT REPORT
BUFFALO WITH SNARE WIRE
Today/Thursday 18/5/17
between 8am and 9am - A buffalo was reported by Lomagundi Lakeside and SWIFT
staff, seen today crossing the Power line road near Lomagundi Lakeside with a
tight wire snare on back right / hind leg close to the hoof, barely able to
walk.
Whilst he was on his own when
seen, the herd was nearby so he is probably trailing behind trying to keep up
with the herd.
He was trying to walk across
the power line road towards Baobab extension, the bridge before Batonga and one
report advises towards the University area.
Please advise ANY SIGHTINGS
so Parks and KAWFT can assist with the removal of the wire before the hoof comes
off !!
Please warn all to be
ALERT when walking in this area and NOT to walk in the bush
Photos of
a snare removed in a similar area by the hoof, in 2015
Note the
damage and how deep a tight wire can go – to the bone !!
Please continue to
contact us on the below if there are anymore sightings
Carl Nicholson, our Resident
Darter will be back tomorrow/Friday and we really hope we will have visuals on
this Buffalo so Parks and KAWFT can remove the wire BEFORE anymore damage is
