ALERT -  PLEASE BE ON THE LOOK OUT for a Buffalo with a tight snare on back leg

ALERT REPORT BUFFALO WITH SNARE WIRE

Today/Thursday 18/5/17 between 8am and 9am - A buffalo was reported by Lomagundi Lakeside and SWIFT staff, seen today crossing the Power line road near Lomagundi Lakeside with a tight wire snare on back right / hind leg close to the hoof, barely able to walk.

Whilst he was on his own when seen, the herd was nearby so he is probably trailing behind trying to keep up with the herd.

He was trying to walk across the power line road towards Baobab extension, the bridge before Batonga and one report advises towards the University area.

Please advise ANY SIGHTINGS so Parks and KAWFT can assist with the removal of the wire before the hoof comes off !!

Please warn all to be ALERT when walking in this area and NOT to walk in the bush

Photos of a snare removed in a similar area by the hoof, in 2015

Note the damage and how deep a tight wire can go – to the bone !!

Please continue to contact us on the below if there are anymore sightings

Carl Nicholson, our Resident Darter will be back tomorrow/Friday and we really hope we will have visuals on this Buffalo so Parks and KAWFT can remove the wire BEFORE anymore damage is done

1.   Where about seen/location

2.   Time of day or night

3.   If able to take any photos of the animal

4.   Is the animal on its own or with others, approximately how many

5.   Any defining marks on the ears, body etc, for ease of locating which animal

6.   If possible keep the animal visual until help arrives, we will keep in contact as we urgently make our way to you.

DO NOT APPROACH THE ANIMAL

All information possible will assist with the finding of the animal or herd and the sooner the more chance of removing the snare, giving any needed medical attention and saving another life.

When we all work together we can make things happen.

THANK YOU ….
